Dr. Chris S. Kim

Dr. Chris S. Kim is an Ivy League–trained dentist, physician, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based surgical care to patients throughout Rome and Northwest Georgia. His unique dual-degree background in dentistry and medicine allows him to approach oral and maxillofacial surgery with a comprehensive understanding of both dental and systemic health. He is passionate about combining advanced surgical training and medical knowledge with a patient-centered philosophy focused on safety, comfort, and outstanding clinical outcomes.

Dr. Kim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering (Biotechnology) from the University of California, San Diego, where he attended as a recipient of the prestigious Jacobs Scholarship. He graduated as valedictorian of his class with numerous academic honors, including induction into Tau Beta Pi, the nation’s oldest engineering honor society.

He continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution, where he simultaneously earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the School of Dental Medicine and his Master of Science in Bioengineering (MSE). Dr. Kim was awarded the Dean’s Merit Scholarship in recognition of his academic excellence and graduated with the greatest number of honors distinctions in his class.

Dr. Kim then pursued the rigorous medical and surgical pathway of a six-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During his residency, he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Louisiana State University School of Medicine while completing comprehensive hospital-based surgical training at LSU Health Sciences Center.

His medical and surgical education extended far beyond dentistry. Dr. Kim trained alongside physicians and surgeons through rotations in anesthesiology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, burn surgery, general surgery, intensive care, and critical care medicine. This extensive medical background provides him with a deeper understanding of complex medical conditions, perioperative management, anesthesia, and the care of medically compromised surgical patients.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kim volunteered as a resident physician in a Medical Intensive Care Unit, caring for critically ill patients during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. In recognition of his commitment to compassionate patient care, professionalism, and service, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Kim received comprehensive training in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including wisdom tooth removal, dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, complex bone grafting, office-based IV anesthesia and sedation, facial trauma, oral pathology, and reconstructive surgery. He has authored academic publications and textbook chapters on facial reconstructive surgery and remains committed to lifelong learning and evidence-based care so that his patients may benefit from continued advances in surgical techniques and technology.

Dr. Kim’s philosophy of care is simple: every patient deserves to be treated with honesty, compassion, respect, and the same level of care he would want for his own family. His combined dental, medical, and surgical training shapes an approach centered on careful diagnosis, thoughtful treatment planning, patient safety, and clear communication. He believes exceptional surgical care begins with listening carefully and ensuring that every patient feels informed, comfortable, and confident throughout treatment.

Dr. Kim is equally committed to building lasting partnerships with referring dentists and physicians. He believes that trust, communication, and continuity of care are fundamental to excellent outcomes. His goal is to provide timely consultations, thoughtful and comprehensive treatment recommendations, prompt access for urgent patients, and clear communication throughout every stage of treatment while returning patients to the ongoing care of their referring providers. As the next generation of leadership for the practice, Dr. Kim looks forward to serving Rome, Floyd County, and Northwest Georgia with integrity, compassion, and clinical excellence.
